The People’s Panel
Heide Museum

The art world can be daunting. Heide Museum of Modern Art wanted visitors to feel comfortable voicing an opinion about art, without fear of sounding stupid.

Idea
The People’s Panel. Our idea let anyone be an art critic – in their own words.
We placed two Heide artworks at a busy city location, inviting viewers to connect and share their thoughts via Twitter hashtags. Below the artworks, we swapped traditional information panels for LCD screens that rolled through the comments in real time. Conscious that people often feel unsure of what to say about art, we offered a less-intimidating forum where it’s normal to be completely candid.

We put digital screens in our 6sheets that displayed people’s tweets.

The LCD screens also replaced information panels within Heide, transforming the gallery experience into a two-way conversation
